Petition To Bring the Shell Love Bug Home

Denise Dillon started this petition to Lee County Commissioners!! Thank you Denise!!!!

This petition is for the Lee County Commissioners to release the Shell Love Bug back to its creator, Pam Rambo of Sanibel Island, FL. Pam, a local artist and Shell Expert, and her crew of volunteers spent hundreds of man hours creating and laboring over the VW Shell Love Bug for National Seashell Day in 2016. It was a verbal agreement between Pam and Lee County that stated the car would be returned into Pam’s possession after National Seashell Day. As of today that has still not occurred and Lee County is now reversing that verbal agreement.

Let’s send a message to the Lee County Commissioners in support of Pam and her artistic efforts incorporating thousands of shells from her private collection in addition to shells from countless shellers and Sanibel residents.

Pam, thru her website, blog, vlog, and numerous social media accounts has helped raise awareness of both shell collection appreciation and the beautiful island of Sanibel and all it has to offer.

Let’s get Shell Love Bug home!

Shell Love Bug Description

Shell Love Bug front hood seashells-2

This seashell designed 2005 convertible Volkswagen beetle is the ultimate symbol for the love of seashells and shelling… hence the name Shell Love Bug.  Most of the shells used to make this shelldazzled masterpiece are from the personal collection of Pam and Clark Rambo, Sanibel Shell crafters and oodles of shells donated by other obsessed shellers. This is the biggest mobile Sailors Valentine on the planet!

How Shell Love Bug was Born

Florida is known as having great beaches for finding seashells. After collecting a few shells, one tends to get obsessed by finding over 300 different seashells varieties as well as realizing beach combing is therapeutic for the mind and body so that eventually one becomes a “sheller”.  In 2016, Lee VCB had the idea of officially making June 20 of each year National Seashell Day to “shellebrate” this wonderful hobby of collecting shells.

The visitors bureous asked local “shellebrity” Pam Rambo of iLoveShelling.com if she could help kick off the first annual National Seashell Day with a bang. Pam came up with the idea of having a car encrusted with seashells to make the largest Sailors Valentine ever on record. Because of Pam’s idea, the bureau took a leap of faith, bought a VW convertible then handed it over to Pam. Within 6 weeks, Pam’s envision of a shelldazzled art car masterpiece came to fruition.

As Pam says… “I had lots of help- the talent of Sanibel Shell Crafters, shellers who donated shells, the many shellers in the community who helped glue shells, the encouragement of the shelling community and especially the love and support of my husband Clark… we call him Super Sheller Clark. He found the junonia that adorns the hood… and he found hundreds of the wentletraps that make up the 4 sand dollar designs… and most of the horse conchs that line the lights… and the bumper’s alphabet cones. Yep, now you see why we call him Super Sheller Clark.”
